In Nigeria, what is usually on the minds of most fresh graduates weather from private or public institutions is the compulsory one(1) year service organized by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), a body that was established by the Government of Nigeria.
Th NYSC redeployment Scheme was established based on three(3) main factors; Health, Marital and Security grounds.
The question of redeployment or relocation only comes to mind if the state of deployment isn't conducive or favorable to us or the State is attributed to life threatening situation (Bokoharam, Political/Religious uprising).
Many corps members desire to redeploy to another state closer to home but what many don't understand is what grounds a redeployment request is being considered by NYSC board.
In this post, I shall be discussing the most acceptable grounds for redeployment under the three(3) main factors mentioned above.
1. HEALTH/MEDICAL GROUNDS:
Health is a serious business, in that it is associated with life. Over the years, NYSC has recorded deaths of serving corps members owing to health related problems, this informed the quick attention given to health issues in redeployment process.
Some illnesses that are given accelerated response during redeployment include: Tuberculosis(TB), Epilepsy, Sickle Cell(SS), Kidney/Liver Problems, Asthma and Others.
Corp members who wish to redeploy based on health ground will need a medical report from a recognized health institution such as General Hospitals, Federal Medical Centers, Military/ Police Hospitals e.t.c.
Claims to medical case history are usually subjected to further confirmation to ascertain their authenticity but, the truth is that some orientation camp officials in most cases do not border to conduct further confirmation of medical reports basically because there are always many cases of corps members seeking redeployment based on health grounds and let's not forget that orientation camping is only three(3) weeks and most camps usually commence redeployment process towards the 2nd or 3rd week of camping.
2.MARRIAGE:
marriage is recognized and given special attention in redeployment process.
in this category, female corp members are usually considered only, the corp member is expected to come along with a marriage certificate as you will required to attach a copy to the redeployment form that will be given to you or the application letter you will write as the case may be.
it will be worthy of mention that your discharge certificate usually bear the names on the marriage certificate presented during redeployment in case you are nursing the intention of forging a marriage certificate.
3.PHYSICAL DISABILITY:
physically challenged corp members are given priority in redeployment process but this is respective of the 'nature' of a persons disabilities.
in most cases, they are totally not allowed to participate in any camping activities. they only have to report to the orientation camp and engage the relevant authorities, their redeployment is most at times automatic.
4.PREGNANCY:
pregnant corp members are considered for redeployment after camping.
they bare also exempted from 'man o war' drills and other strenuous physical activities in the camp.
They are required to have a valid pregnancy test result from a reputable health institution irrespective of how old the pregnancy is.
5.SECURITY GROUNDS:
the onslaught by Boko Haram insurgents is of great concern to the government even as the Army continue to record success in the fight against them.
their are still pockets of attacks by them on both civilians and Military installations which is why the NYSC board has given special attention to corps members posted to this region. in this category, corp members who have been posted to the North East states affected by Boko Haram insurgency are given automatic redeployment. states affected include Adamawa, Borno, Yobe, Gombe and other northern states in the region.
orientation camps of some of these affected states are usually moved to another state away from the troubled states to a different region. corp members who then wish to redeploy after camping are given automatic redeployment to one out of their choice of states for redeployment. so if you are posted to these states please be at peace.
your contributions are very important to us, please leave a comment and of course, ask your questions regarding NYSC.
