INDIGENOUS Peoples of Biafra, IPOB , has denounced reports circulating on social media that its leader, Nnamdi Kanu was on the run amid moves by the Federal Government to re-arrest him following an alleged violation of his bail conditions.
This came as Ralph Uwazuruike, founder of the Biafra Independence Movement,BIM, said the Federal Fovernment is using Nnamdi Kanu to destroy the struggle for Biafra.
In a press release issued by the spokesman of IPOB, Emma Powerful, the group dismissed the rumour of Kanu going into hiding as a “laughable fabrication designed to demystify our leader (Nnamdi Kanu). “This wicked lie and malicious fabrication is the work of the enemies of Biafra, who enjoy their perfect slave status and will remain servants to Arewa North all their lives.
“These shameless individuals have allowed themselves to be used to advance the mission of the caliphate in Biafraland which is total submission to Hausa Fulani Islamic hegemonic domination,” the statement read. The group, in the statement, insisted that Nnamdi Kanu was not ready to go on exile no matter the level of threats issued by the Federal Government, noting that IPOB remains the most vibrant and intelligent mass movement in the world.“Our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has made it abundantly clear to all and sundry that he is not going on exile as a result of these childish threats.
“IPOB is till today the most vibrant, indomitable and intelligent mass movement in the world.“IPOB and Nnamdi Kanu cannot be intimidated by anybody or group no matter how highly placed they think of themselves. Our mission is to restore Biafra and nothing under the sun can stop us.
”The statement also revealed that the agitation for the state of Biafra by Kanu shall not stop until a referendum is conducted in a democratic manner.
“Until the Nigerian government fixes a date for referendum to settle the issue of Biafra in a civilised and democratic manner, this raging agitation led by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu will continue.
“We urge every Biafran, no matter where you are, to remain resolute and strong because Biafra is tantalisingly closer than we expect.”
‘Kanu being used to destroy Biafra —Uwazuruike
But BIM leader, Ralph Uwazuruike countered IPOB’s position, alleging instead, that Kanu is being used to destroy the Biafra agitation.Speaking in the current edition of The Interview, Uwazuruike accused the IPOB leader of waging war against Biafra.
He said it was regrettable that his efforts to achieve a sovereign state of Biafra “through peaceful means” were being ruined by Kanu who has been sabotaged by security services to destabilise the struggle for Biafra”.
Uwazuruike said Kanu intends to ruin the Biafra agitation, starting with the November 18 governorship election in Anambra state which the IPOB leader has advised his followers to boycott.
“Nnamdi is fighting against Biafra. The security agencies have seen Nnamdi as somebody with a high value that they can use,” he said.
“They heard him shouting on radio and they approached him and he accepted to work with them. “The election in Anambra state is aimed at favouring the All Progressives Congress (APC) to edge out Governor Obiano through destabilisation. That’s the only thing and it’s being arranged by the security agencies, using Kanu.
“I know the mansions that Nnamdi Kanu and people like him have abroad…let Kanu keep disgracing himself like he’s doing now, because I know he’s being funded and I know those funding him.”Uwazuruike further described Kanu’s arrest and bail conditions as “a set up,” wondering why the director of Radio Biafra who was bailed on health grounds “has not visited any hospital since his release from detention”.
The MASSOB leader also criticised the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration for “lacking the capacity to govern”. According to him, the All Progressives Congress (APC) won an election “but didn’t plan” for governance.
He also accused Attahiru Jega, former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), of “rigging former President Goodluck Jonathan out of office”.
He said: “If Jonathan had remained the president of Nigeria till today, the US dollar would not have exchanged for more than N50. Nigeria will still beg Jonathan to come back.
”Uwazuruike and Kanu, both Biafra proponents, have been on war paths. In June, he had said he was disappointed that Radio Biafra which he “handed over to Kanu has become something else” other than what it was created for.
